20th Annual International Queer Women of Color Film Festival
Where: Presidio Theatre
When: Friday, June 14th to Sunday, June 16th | Various times
About: This June 14-16, 2024, the Queer Women of Color Media Arts Project (QWOCMAP) will host its landmark 20th annual International Queer Women of Color Film Festival (QWOCFF24) at the beautifully renovated Presidio Theatre in San Francisco’s Presidio National Park. Admission is free, and the festival will showcase 44 films across five screenings. Upholding our long-standing commitment to disability justice, we ensure inclusivity with subtitles for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing, audio descriptions for the Blind and Low Vision, and ASL interpretation at all screenings. This comprehensive approach ensures that all attendees can fully participate in and appreciate the cinematic experience.
This year’s Festival Focus, “Joyful Reunion,” invites attendees from around the Bay Area and the world to explore a diverse slate of films and discussions. The special anniversary will feature a spotlight panel, “Unshakeable Legacy: Queer Women of Color Filmmakers,” moderated by Madeleine Lim, award-winning filmmaker and QWOCMAP’s founding Executive/Artistic Director.
The Film Festival’s screenings delve into the complexities of human connections. From reclaiming Visayan ancestral traditions to advocating for Kānaka ‘Ōiwi rights, and from addressing spiritual grief to celebrating queer Black love, the films highlight the dynamic concept of home(s). Alongside stories like that of a Deaf Korean adoptee’s journey and a hopeful skater girl, QWOCFF24 aims to foster a deeper understanding of Indigenous knowledge, shared ecology, and queer realities, countering regressive rhetoric on racial, sexual, and gender diversity.
Join us as we celebrate two decades of community solidarity and generational dialogue, fostering creativity and transformative change.
