The key mission of Refugee and Immigrant Services is to assist clients in achieving not just legal status and economic self-sufficiency, but in becoming fully active participants in the social and civic life of our communities. We help immigrants understand the immigration law and to know their rights under the law. Our program is designed to advise and guide clients through the immigration process in an efficient, effective and professionally caring manner. We also provide resettlement, case management, and referrals to retraining services for refugees and asylum-seekers who have fled war, persecution, and violence in their home countries. Our staff members live out values of charity and justice by welcoming newcomers and providing free or low-cost legal and support services to immigrants and refugees in San Francisco, Marin and San Mateo Counties. We aim to build good citizens through advocacy, education, legal immigration services, case management and civic engagement. We also help families that have been separated by the migration experience to reunify through: • Petitioning for family visas • Guiding legal residents through the citizenship process • Assisting undocumented battered immigrant women and children gain legal status • Providing advice and counsel on immigration legal matters Our agency is recognized by the Board of Immigration Appeals and our staff members are accredited to provide a broad range of immigration counseling and representation to immigrants and their families.
