Russ Cornell

"Russ has been an integral part of the Center's Information & Referral team as we prepare for our renovation. His ability to work with diverse communities and willingness to cover open shifts has been a blessing to the Center. Russ is one the most dependable volunteers that I have had the pleasure to work with and it is always a joy to catch up with when he comes in for a shift.”- Felipe Flores, Community Programs Coordinator

Interview with Volunteer of the Month - Russ:

  • The Center: What is most memorable to you about your time at the Center?
  • Russ:I have enjoyed every moment I have had to give back to the community through the Center. I especially have enjoyed meeting new friends and getting to know the many diverse and enriching community members. I remember fondly talking to Susan on the phone when she called looking for other LGBT seniors in the area as she was lonely. I was able to direct her to Open House for social events and we have kept in touch over the months over the phone. I have appreciated her life stories and perspective on current politics!
  • The Center: Why should others volunteer with the Center?
  • Russ:I urge any and all to get involved – the diversity of our community is enriching and not too be missed! Do not for one moment think you do not have anything to offer – for many a listening ear is all it takes!
  • The Center: How has volunteering at the Center affected your life?
  • Russ:My perspective has been enlightened and broadened through interactions with our wonderful Trans community. I now have an appreciation for the courage and positive outlook shared by so many.
  • The Center: Thank you Russ for all of the work that you do and congratulations on a well deserved volunteer of the month!
