Matthew Wooldridge

“Matthew whole-heartedly represents the kind of volunteer that you want on your team. He is a triple threat; reliable, knowledgeable and personable. He treats every community member with respect and has a wealth of knowledge from years of volunteer work both here and in New York. I’m honored to recognize him for his dedicated volunteerism at the Center. Way to go Matthew!”

Center: You are involved with our Cyber Center program; what inspires you to continue volunteering with the Center?

My inspirations are many.  I like the people; knowing I can help on some level -- be it resume formatting, a download, or searching for services. And my family is very civic-minded; I myself have been on the receiving end which enables me to understand both empathy and patience.

Center: How has working at the Center challenged you both personally?

My change has been organic, and it is because of the people.  The Center welcomes all.  I'm Bay Are born and raised.  With that said, you don't come in contact with everyone.  That's reality.  This exposure is so welcomed and rewarding.

Center:  Is there a memory that sticks out in the time that you’ve been volunteering with the Center?

I remember one incident in which I needed to listen.  I was helping a client write an e-mail to her parents telling them about reassignment surgery.  I sat with her, and again, listened.  She left cathartic, confident and proud.  Although I’m not a counselor and offer no professional advice, it was heartwarming to be able to sit with her while she was in a vulnerable state.
