PFLAG SF promotes the health and well being of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and gender expansivs persons, their families and friends, through support to cope with an adverse society, education to enlighten an ill-informed public, and advocacy to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. PFLAG SF provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity and act to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity. There are currently about 80 member families in the San Francisco chapter – about 20-30 members and visitors attend our monthly meetings. We break into small peer-led support groups for the first hour and then gather for a presentation (speaker, video, etc.). Recent topics include: Gay/Straight Alliances in high schools, the challenges of religious schools, and the Prop 8 campaign. Booklets from PFLAG about family and coming out issues are always available, along with information from other resources in our local communities. We bring our free lending library to each meeting. Refreshments are served during the break between discussion groups and the program. PFLAG is a tax-exempt 501c3 organization. Donations are always welcome and may be sent to 584 Castro St., #758, San Francisco, CA 94114. All members receive our monthly newsletter and become voting members of PFLAG, Inc.

The San Francisco Hiking Club organizes hikes and similar outings for gays, lesbians, and friends. An event is generally planned on either Saturday or Sunday each weekend. Most often, we meet in mid-morning on the patio under the large Safeway sign on Market Street near Dolores Street; however be sure to check hike information as this is not always the case.
