Immigration Equality's expert legal team represents LGBT and HIV-positive asylum seekers, detainees, and binational couples who are fighting for safety, fair treatment, and freedom.
Immigration Equality is the national leader in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and HIV-positive immigration rights. We are the legal lifeline for asylum seekers, detainees, undocumented immigrants and families who are at increased risk of being deported to life threatening situations as a result of the current state of U.S. immigration law. Every year, our legal team responds to thousands of calls, emails, and letters from vulnerable LGBT people who were forced to flee and are afraid of returning to their country of origin due to their sexual orientation, gender identity, or HIV status. As conditions for our community abroad continue to deteriorate, and as news of our remarkable 98% win rate spreads, our caseload has surged to unprecedented levels. We are currently representing more than 500 individuals who have fled violence and persecution in their country of origin.
Our team of LGBT immigration policy experts is working to change the systems that prevent our community from finding permanent safety. We work with decision makers at every level and advocate for LGBT immigrants when meeting with influential leaders in Washington. We change the policies that hurt our community and advance initiatives that are potentially life-saving.
