Jeffrey Braverman is a director, producer and photographer based in San Francisco and Sonoma. His latest body or work begin when he started photographing people in a pair of boxer-briefs screen printed in the style of Michelangelo's David. The subjects of his portraits share their own modern-day Goliath stories. The photographs on display at the Center are also part of a new documentary by the same name. The documentary debuted at Frameline 41 and will be screened several times during the exhibition. Check back for schedule updates.

"One of the most admired sculptures of all time, Michelangelo’s David is considered artistic perfection. The shepherd youth who never ages. I was compelled to explore the legend behind Michelangelo’s masterpiece. I wanted to better understand the enduring symbolism of David, the underdog who defeated Goliath. Photographing subjects posing in David’s drawers uncovered stories from everyday people who’d overcome great odds. I was reminded that we all have what it takes to vanquish the Goliaths in our lives be they true adversaries or adversarial situations. Sometimes all it takes is a different way of looking at things." - Jeffrey Braverman
